Ghost Immobiliser for Recovery and Repossession Vehicles

By Sam P., R&D Technician at Scorpion Automotive. Reviewed by James M., Technical Director. Published 11 September 2026. Updated 19 October 2026.

Quick answer: a Ghost immobiliser stops a recovery truck or repossession van being driven away without the disarm step, even if someone has the key. We can fit it where the base vehicle is compatible with Ghost 3, Ghost-II or the Scorpion X-Series, and we check every vehicle first.

Why recovery vehicles need more than the factory key

A recovery truck is valuable on its own and often carries someone else’s vehicle as well. Keys get passed between drivers, trucks stand in yards overnight, and many are built on the same light commercial chassis that thieves already know how to start with cloned or relayed keys. An immobiliser on the vehicle’s own network adds a step that a stolen or copied key cannot get past.

What changes for your drivers

  • One short step before driving. The driver enters a sequence on the vehicle’s existing buttons. Ghost 3 can also use a key tag or smartphone.
  • Nothing extra to carry or lose if you use the button sequence.
  • Workshop visits stay simple. Put the vehicle in service mode and the garage can drive it without the code.
  • Forgotten codes are not a breakdown. Every Ghost-II comes with an emergency code that lets the driver disarm and set a new sequence.

Matching the immobiliser to the chassis

Recovery and repossession fleets often mix older and newer vehicles. Ghost-II suits most existing vehicles on a single CAN network. Ghost 3 is built for newer vehicles on the CAN-FD network, roughly 2024 onwards. If the chassis suits neither, we look at the Scorpion X-Series, our group’s own immobiliser, which handles both CAN and LIN. Pair it with a Thatcham tracker if your insurer wants one, and a stolen truck can be traced as well as stopped.

Fitting a fleet

Give us the registrations, or the make, model and year of each truck and van. We tell you which option fits each one, agree where and when the work is done so vehicles stay on the road, and walk your drivers and fitters through disarming and service mode. Emergency service fleets follow the same process; see Ghost for ambulances and emergency vehicles.

Recovery and repossession questions

  • Can a Ghost be fitted to a recovery truck?

Usually, as long as the chassis matches Ghost 3, Ghost-II or the Scorpion X-Series. We confirm that per vehicle before giving a price.

  • What if several drivers share one truck?

They all use the same disarm step. Ghost 3 can also use key tags or a smartphone, which some operators prefer for shared vehicles.

  • What happens if a driver forgets the code?

Every Ghost-II comes with its own emergency code to disarm the vehicle and set a new sequence. Keep it somewhere safe at the depot.

  • Can you fit several vehicles at once?

Yes. We plan fleet work so that vehicles are off the road for as little time as possible.
