Quick answer: if your Ghost-II is working on the car you plan to keep, you do not need to upgrade. Autowatch says the Ghost-II uses a single CAN bus network and suits most existing vehicles. Ghost 3 is Autowatch’s new platform for newer cars, roughly 2024 onwards, that use the faster CAN-FD network. The time to think about Ghost 3 is when you change to one of those cars.
Both do the same job. The car will not drive until you enter your own sequence on buttons it already has, so there is no fob to steal and nothing visible for a thief to find. The difference is the car network each one is built for.
| Ghost-II | Ghost 3 | |
|---|---|---|
| Car network | Single CAN bus | CAN-FD, the faster network on newer cars |
| Suits | Most cars already on the road | Newer cars, roughly 2024 onwards |
| Ways to disarm | Button sequence, and the app where set up | Button sequence, key tag or smartphone |
| From us | Still fitted where it suits the car | £499 fully fitted, our main Ghost from now on |
CAN is the network that lets a car’s control units talk to each other. CAN-FD is a newer, faster version that manufacturers are moving to on their latest models. An immobiliser has to sit on that network to do its job, so a car built around CAN-FD needs a Ghost designed for it. That is the main reason Ghost 3 exists.
We still fit Ghost-II where it is the right match for a car, but Ghost 3 is becoming our standard Ghost. Before any booking we check your make, model and year, because compatibility depends on all three. If you are changing car and want to take your existing Ghost with you, read can you move a Ghost to a new car. Yes. Autowatch still lists the Ghost-II, and we fit it where it suits the car. For newer CAN-FD cars, Ghost 3 is the right choice.
If your car is from around 2024 onwards and uses CAN-FD, most likely yes. The answer depends on make, model and year, so we check before booking.
Both stop the car being driven without your sequence. Ghost 3 is built for the newer network on recent cars, which is what makes it the right fit for them.
£499 fully fitted at our current price, with finance available. See the Ghost immobiliser page for today’s price.
Sometimes. It has to suit the new car. We can move it for you; contact us for a de-fit and refit price.
